Students enrolled in East High School's Financial Literacy program will develop their knowledge of 21st century financial literacy skills. Curriculum includes topics such as savings, banking, credit scores, investing, taxes and financing higher education. Students are enrolled for nine weeks and are required to finish all ten online modules. In addition to completing all ten modules, students must also complete the online financial literacy game presented by the Iowa College Student Aid Commission and EverFi.
Today, most high school students work in addition to going to school. It is important these individuals learn the financial skills provided in this class so good decisions can be made with money earned. Students enrolled in Computer Applications will develop their knowledge of skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint. Students will be exposed to practical examples of how the computer and Microsoft Office are useful tools. Proper procedures to create documents, worksheets, databases and presentations suitable for coursework, professional purposes and personal use will be exercised. By discovering the functionality of Microsoft Office, students will become more productive. In this classroom, students will develop an exercise-oriented approach that allows learning by doing. Course material will be meaningful and authentic. Those enrolled in Intro & General Business classes are introduced to business concepts and skills needed in today’s competitive environment. Classroom discussion will cover major business concepts, such as finance, marketing, operations, and management.
